![]() ![]() There are a handful of artists who have started making music in the 21st century that have the combination of immense acclaim and popularity, but much less than before. I mean yes there is shit like Phil Collins and Bon Jovi, but there is no comparison. They are combined immense claim with high sales. ![]() Here are some pre-21st century popular artists (some of these made some of their most significant work in the 21st century)ījork, Bowie, Prince, Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, The Beatles, Beach boys (to be fair most of their stuff is trash, but they had a great creative period) The Cure, James Brown, Marvin Gaye Nirvana, Radiohead, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Smashing Pumpkins, Bob Dylan, Jay-Z, Nas, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Stevie Wonder etc etc ![]() I mean some of it sure, but in comparison it is far superior. TLDR, music is subjective and you disliking something doesn’t make it bad. Even then, something like Kero Kero Bonito's Bonito Generation can be nice to listen to when you just want to relax, and listen to something that isn’t too heavy. So, is Queen's music soulless garbage, too?Įven then, pop music can have any number of messages- Poppy's album Poppy.Computer is a great example of a concept album in the pop genre. Killer Queen is a song that most people enjoy, and it’s not about anything important. You have to realize that music doesn’t have to have some life changing message for you to enjoy it. Usually people will say that the music is bad because it doesn’t have a message, or if it does, it’s not deep enough. I’ve never really been able to enjoy Tyler, The Creator, even after listening to a few of his albums, but I don’t go around saying his music is shit because music. Just because you don’t like something doesn’t make it bad. I don’t really have any strong opinions on either of the above, but people tend to forget that music is extremely subjective. I keep seeing people talk about how much they hate Doja Cat and Machine Gun Kelly and going “mainstream music is terrible!” on this sub and I’m so tired of it.
